Turn Up The Heat

h24So last night, 15 Union Square in the NYC was on fire! Not literally, but as you can see the building was illuminated red in honor of Sunkissed Diva Beyonce’s fragrance launch, Heat.

I know, I know, Bey is not an SKM but she is an auntie and she is fierce so that qualifies. Plus, she is the sister of uber fabulous SKM Solange and if anything, that should be enough to get her some space here on the site.

I had the privilege of attending this very sexy event and for some strange reason I started to feel nauseous in the cab. I don’t think I was nervous but in hindsight, it could have been the lack of food in my system. In my haste to get to NY, I completely forgot to eat and once I got to my hotel I only had enough time to get dressed because I didn’t want to be late to the festivities.

Let’s fast forward to the event, you see the black velvet curtains looking like it is draped over a box? Well, that is the entrance.h26

How about I saw an opening midway down the block, and lifted it up to go in and it was a wall!! Clearly, the homeless guy across the street was more ”in the know”  than I was as he shouted out ”lady you have to walk all the way down” Embarrassing!  So through the entrance everything was quiet, red and smokey (not from cigarette smoke but the fog machine was on). I expected to have to fight my way through fans and paparazzi as I made my way onto the red carpet, but alas, there was none of that. The photographer raised her camera as I entered but when she realized I wasn’t famous, she smiled politely and I mosied along. I got my red wristband and proceeded down the long hallway to the elevators. Security was everywhere. For a moment it was a flashback to the White House State Dinner, (I kid, I kid, I was never there but who knows what the future holds ;)

Once upstairs, I could tell that there was one room that was jamming so I decided to save that for last and walked around looking to see the ambiance of the other rooms but turns out there was only one. (According to my itinerary packet, there were to be four rooms.) So I make my way in and there on the dance floor was Mama Knowles, getting down! She was moving too fast so I wasn’t able to snap a pic but she’s cute and I can see where the Knowles sisters get their grace from because as she was dropping it low, she wasn’t tacky. (side post-She reminds me of a character on Dynasty, like if they ever remade this movie now, she should definitely be cast in it.)

When I first saw Beyonce, the first thought that came into my head was “damn she is slim”. It is 100% clear to me now that the camera definitely adds weight because she looked like a doll, a pretty doll nonetheless in a very nicely fit red dress. There wasn’t a time that I looked in her direction and she wasn’t dancing. It could have been an ode to her sister  spinning the tunes but I don’t think Bey took a break at all.

Here are some press pics from the evening:

Speaking of spinning, I am not a music connoisseur and ever since I started reproducing, I really don’t do the party scene too much so I really couldn’t tell you what makes a good DJ but Solange looked like a professional and there wasn’t a still body in the room, so from my account, she was great! I did listen to see how she mixed songs in and I recall me having to do a slight jerk to keep up with the beat but again, she looked glamorous DJing so what else really matters?  Here’s my Twitpic of DJ Solange on the 1’s and 2’s:

*Kisses to Imani Rose because she was such a sweetheart.

Not sure you can see this picture but if you click on it to enlarge, it may be a tad bit better and you all should try this drink at home:

Simply Delish!

I grooved, I drank, I mingled. I Flip-d. Here is some exclusive video of Solange rocking the party. Didn’t she look cute?

If you look at one (or two) videos in the far left you will see sis and her hubby having a good time. At one point, I did get side-tracked and started taping them but then I remembered why I was there and got back to the DJ.

I put out a request on Twitter asking what questions the masses had for Solange and the majority of respondents wanted to know, what hair products she uses to maintain her natural coif. On our way out of the party, she gave me the exclusive deets: “oooh I use Hair Rules, R-U-L-E-S, the best!”

Here is the web site for you to check out their products. Hair Rules

Overall, I had a really good time. The ambiance was sexy, tracks were groovy, drinks were flowing and those little cutesy butlered hors d’oeuvres were tasty. Fab party indeed! Other celebs in attendance were fellow SKM Sherri Sheppard from The View (follow her HERE on Twitter, she has cute pics in her timeline), Usher, and Michelle Williams.

This wouldn’t be a great story if we didn’t give away some spoils! We are giving one lucky reader the chance to win ‘The Heat’ gift set. Included in the set are:

Glad you had a good time! It’s hard for me to pick a favorite song from Bey, but if I absolutely had to, it would be ‘Listen’ or ‘Until the End of Time’. I can’t even put into words how they make me feel. But most of her songs do that to me :)

So much sexy from SKM Solange! Fist pump to all the music heard in the videos I get up to all those songs in the party.
I too became distracted by the background. Gotta love them! Speaking of background the ambiance seemed absolutely darling. Hot, sexy and subtle which I believe is and accurate description of the lady of the night as well.
I love you for taking us into this fab event! Not only am I excited to see Solange blossom as a DJ, you have now convinced me that I need to invest in a flip. Great story!

It looks & sounds like you had an awesome time. Thanks for sharing! One of my favorite Beyonce songs is her rendition of “At Last”. I love this song for a couple of reasons. First, it is the song my husband used to propose to me & our first dance at our wedding reception. Second, it is the song she performed live for our President & First Lady at the Inaugural Ball and I remember being super excited because it was ‘our’ song as well.

A Beyonce original that I love is “Get Me Bodied”. Great dance & workout song.
